Public utility
One important task of Stokab is to ensure access to an operator neutral IT infrastructure that can be used by all.
This is necessary because as an IT society develops business, public administration and households become increasingly dependent upon having adequate access to IT infrastructure. Today we can see that certain operator owned networks or where the telephone network is the only alternative have been utilised to their capacity ceiling and thereby cannot cope with more users. In certain innercity areas this has caused a shortage of communications possibilities that previously had only been regarded to be a problem for sparsely populated areas.
Society runs a great risk of ending up in a digital segregation comprising those who have access to the new IT society and those who lack information in the knowledge society. An extensive IT infrastructure represents a precondition for business having the opportunity of establishing itself and being able to function.
