Vision, strategy and business concept

Stokab’s vision is to put the Stockholm region in general, and the City of Stockholm and Stokab in particular, on the global IT map as a driving force in the creation of ‘an information society for all’.

Strategy
In order to achieve this, Stokab provides an open operator neutral IT infrastructure (Information and Communication Technology) for all and for all needs. IT is one of the most important factors affecting development today and Stokab thereby stimulates growth in Stockholm and the Stockholm and Mälar region.

Business concept
Stokab’s business concept as an operator-neutral network owner is to:

  • first on commercial terms provide an IT infrastructure for all, particularly in the City of Stockholm and to thereby contribute to growth in the Stockholm and Mälar region
  • second, on the assignment of the City of Stockholm through the Stokab subsidiary S:t Erik Kommunikation, administer and develop the City’s overall communications network for both administration and management and also for the more public needs of schools, child care services, leisure and culture. Stokab’s commitment and involvement involves both fulfilling clear social needs and the market’s wishes within IT and thereby promoting the development of Stockholm and the Stockholm region.

Overall objectives
An extensive open IT infrastructure constitutes a precondition for being able to achieve the objective of having a sustainable information society for all, and thereby an opportunity to create an improved quality of life and simplify everyday life for citizens and business. Everybody should have access to the IT infrastructure
that is required to have an opportunity of gaining access to public e-services. The requirements for accessibility mean that it will be necessary to create en IT infrastructure comprising several different technical solutions.

One strategy to reach all at a reasonable cost may be to permanently or temporarily use various wireless alternatives. Stokab will continue to take initiatives for wireless solutions as a supplement to the fixed network where necessary. Cooperation with other urban network owners and regional network owners is also important to be able to ensure access to open operator-neutral solutions. Stokab will also orientate itself towards cooperation from a Nordic and Baltic perspective, in order to be able to constitute a hub for the IT infrastructure within this region.
